CORD LEADERS DEFENDS THE FORMER PM OF HECKLING OF JUBILEE LEADERS AT KISII
Cord top notch leaders have
dismissed allegations which surfaced that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga hired youths to
heckle Jubilee leaders in Kisii. In a statement they have termed this as
reckless and meant to divert attention from Jubilee's failure to honour poll
promises.
Siaya senator James Orengo and Suba
MP John Mbadi said government spokesman Muthui Kariuki's claims were without
basis and meant to demonise an innocent Raila who had nothing to do with the
crowds reaction at a funeral of the 15 students and teachers who perished in an
accident two weeks ago.
On Tuesday during the burial of 11
students and four teachers who perished in a road accident two weeks ago
government officials including ICT cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i were booed
by the angry crowd at the venue. However, according to our impeccable sources from the ground the youths were angry at the presidents failure to turn up.
On Thursday, Muthui said “it is
common knowledge that Raila’s sidekicks spent three days in Kisii County
plotting how they would disrupt the funeral service” adding that the money paid
the hecklers was drawn from the “Kisii county coffers.”
“We state without fear that Odinga
was a mourner just like all the others. He neither ferried nor paid anyone .If
he got a standing ovation, it was as a result of the community's respect for
him,” they said in a statement.
Muthui also accused the cord leader
of failing to return six government vehicles in his possession almost four
months after leaving office but the mps in defending Raila vowed that the
former premier will not return any of the properties including the vehicles
that were allocated to him.
Odinga is also facing accusations
that he has illegally put a siren on one of the cars which he is using it to
manoeuvre through traffic in the city.
“He is forever mourning that the
government is not giving him recognition, yet he has refused to return six
government vehicles and has gone on and bought an illegal siren and is forever
driving all over town using the wrong lanes,” Muthui said on Thursday.
But in rejoinder, the mps said that
if the siren was illegally fitted in Raila's car, the police should have
arrested him.
“The siren in his car is a government
property and we wonder what Muthui means
when he says the siren is illegal, they should have arrested him if it was
illegal,” Orengo said.
